Crowd funded to cult following
On a mission to improve sleep through our noise-masking expertise, we partnered with Indiegogo’s Enterprise program. This collaboration allowed us to work directly with highly engaged users to validate and improve our product for a new audience. Tapping into an unmet need, it didn’t take long for these early adopters to become passionate fans.
As design lead, I utilized my in-ear headphone experience to guide a team of internal and external designers from the first napkin sketch to the final out-of-box experience. We digitally scanned hundreds of ears to inform our CAD models to ensure optimal fit and comfort.
Comfy and cosy
No two ears are alike. To make the most comfortable fit possible we 3D scanned scores of ears and used that geometry to create the tiny jewel‑like housing. The soft silicone tips nestle into the ear for a minimal, low‑profile fit that remains comfortable even for side sleepers.
Personal and precious
Like placing rings in a jewelry dish, the vessel inspired anodized aluminum charging case provides a home for the SleepBuds when not being worn. And when unplugged, the case provides additional charge for traveling.
The circular silhouette, a reference to the moon, is carried through to even the arcing path the lid follows as it slides open.
SleepBuds II
The second generation SleepBuds included improved battery life and the ability to stream content from the companion Bose Sleep App. With the upgrade in technology came the challenge of packing more components in the earbud while maintaining the same level of all-night comfort.

Through close collaboration with engineering an optimize internal component layout allowed for a natural evolution of the circular form language.
The smooth sliding lid opens to reveal a dark sculpted interior - high contrast increases visibility of the SleepBuds in low light.
The intensity and color of the LED feedback has been tuned to provide a warm comforting glow.
